Elevating South Australia's Innovative Women

S.T.E.A.M.

What is S.T.E.A.M.?

S.T.E.M. is an acronym for science, technology, engineering and mathematics industries.

S.T.E.M. + A. for art / design thinking = S.T.E.A.M.

In this climate of economic uncertainty, we are once again turning to innovation as the way to ensure a prosperous future. Innovation still remains tightly coupled with science, technology, engineering and math – the S.T.E.M. subjects. And effective user adoption of great S.T.E.M. innovations involves great end user design. By adding art + design thinking to the equation, we transform S.T.E.M. into S.T.E.A.M.

S.T.E.A.M. is a movement championed by Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and widely adopted by institutions, corporations and individuals across the globe. The objectives of the S.T.E.A.M. movement are to:

  1. 1. Transform research policy to place art + design at the center of S.T.E.M.
  2. 2. Encourage integration of art + design in education
  3. 3. Influence employers to hire artists and designers to drive innovation

Art + Design have already begun to transform our economy in the 21st century - just as science and technology did in the 20th.
