2016 Emerging Innovator

Melanie Fuller

A PhD student at Flinders University, Melanie is working to improve gene therapy for Cystic Fibrosis, with an innovation which uses gold nanoparticles. Along with collaborators at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Melanie is embarking on a long regime of testing before the therapy can be widely used. If viable, the innovation could save thousands of people’s lives. Babies could be given if diagnosed with the condition, meaning they may never develop the onset of Cystic Fibrosis symptoms in their lungs.
